River Kolpa

The River Kolpa is famous as »the longest riviera in Slovenia«. One of the warmest and cleanest rivers in Europe is running on the very east southern edge of Slovenia in the region Bela krajina, on the other side already looking at Croatia. River is protected as Nature park Kolpa, where you can truly enjoy its unique nature and peace. Clean water, naturally intact river beds, numerous rapids and coves decorate the river.

The nature park is noted for its characteristically shaped Karst landscape, where cultivated fern-lands and carefully tended sinkholes are formed into terraces. The cultivated land retains a primeval air especially on the meadows and pastures. Herbal and animal diversity give to Bela krajina additional charm. For these reasons River Kolpa is listed as one of the areas of broader international concern, recognized under the name »Natura 2000« and EDEN (European destination of excellence).

Nature park Kolpa which is surrounding camp Podzemelj is perfect for cycling and hiking, mushroom picking, horse riding, fishing and different sightseeing trips that involves local craft and natural and cultural heritage of the area.
